Simple samples

So , it is unofficially the summer entertaining season! I adore summer foods: any grilled foods, fresh veggies and fruits and the list goes on and on. What do you serve before your main food? Most people offer chips, veggies, salsa, etc. Why not serve these simple samples featured in Martha Stewart's magazine:

WINNERS' CUP - Nut and party cups filled with sample portions of a baby Greek salad, pasta salad or your favorite salad. The cups are just enough to tide everyone over until the main course. You can find these cups at Wilton or your local GFS store. Be sure to add Bamboo mini forks from Pearl River.

These cups and mini forks are also a wonderful idea for serving samples of desserts. Your guests can sample several different desserts without feeling too guilty after.

Bon appetite!

Chicago Day Trip

One of my favorite cities in just happens to be very close - Chicago. I love Chicago even in the winter ( Ok - so maybe not the dead of winter. More like when it's sunny and nice in the winter).

Anyway, a few years ago, I went on an Eli Lilly bus trip to Chicago with a dear friend of mine. We had a blast. My husband and I typically drive, but this trip was fun because there were two buses of ladies all excited to be doing various things in Chicago. That is why I have decided to do a Day Trip to Chicago from Indy on September 26th, 2009.

Details:
Join us as we take a bus trip to CHICAGO! We will travel to the Windy City in Miller Motor Coaches. You can shop along the Magnificent Mile, visit Navy Pier, the wonderful Chicago museums, catch a matinee and much, much more. The choice is yours.

Cost: $45/per person which includes R/T transportation, beverages and snacks. Deposit of $22.50 is due on or before June 7, 20009. Final payment of $22.50 is due on or before August 30, 2009.

Buses will depart from Indianapolis (location TBA) and drop off one block west of Michigan Avenue and Navy Pier in Chicago.
You don’t want to miss the fabulous drawings during both legs of the trip. Awesome prizes from Tommy Bahama, Starbuck’s and Nordstrom etc.

Watermelon Margaritas.......refreshing!

If you are looking for a great and refreshing drink as your signature summer drink this year (hey, who doesn't have a signature summer drink?) , then try this fab one I found on allrecipe.com. Nothing says spring quite like watermelon. Don't drink alcohol? Try a virgin version - just as delicious.

Watermelon Margaritas
1 1/2 ounces Don Julio® Blanco Tequila
1/2 ounce lime juice
1/4 ounce agave nectar
1 slice watermelon
Muddle watermelon and agave syrup, add rest of ingredients and shake well.
Double strain into a frozen martini glass.
Garnish with a watermelon slice

Enjoy!

It's just about that time again for our annual Spa Day! It all started with a birthday party and grew from there. While having the various treatments are most often individual events, the entire spa day is a great way to connect with your girlfriends. Many ladies indulge in this party while celebrating birthdays, promotions, bachelorette parties and other events. Why not have a yearly Spa Day with and for your friends? These events are great planned at home or at one of your local spas - but super great if you do a destination spa weekend!

Planning a DIY project is pretty easy and can be lots of fun. There are many massage therapists and nail techs who will come to your home to do their magic. Just make sure you are using licensed professionals who are able perform their trade on private property.
More tips:
  • Great your guests with fluffy warm robes and slippers.
  • Have spa music floating in every room your guests will be.
  • Cucumber and citrus waters are wonderfully refreshing. Chill water in a beautiful glass pitcher and add cucumbers or oranges to it - DELICIOUS.
  • Green teas are great for winter spa days. Chill it for the warmer months.
  • Serve healthy food - veggies and fruits are always good.....
  • Set up "massage rooms" in different rooms in your home. Depending on space, you can slide your furniture out of the way for the massage tables. Scented candles in eucalyptus are extra relaxing. Spa music is easy to find and most massage therapists have their own. Use spa music in your rooms.

Here is a healthy spa recipe for your DIY Spa Day from Spa Index:

Turkey Wraps

Serving Size: 4 wraps

12 ounces turkey breast thinly sliced

2 cups cabbage, julienned

1 large green apple, julienned

1 large carrot, julienned

1/8 cup canola oil

3 tablespoons apple cider vinegar

1 tablespoon honey

4 tortillas

Whisk oil, vinegar and honey together and season with salt and pepper. Pour the dressing over the vegetables and apple and toss to mix well. Place 1/4 of the sliced turkey and 1/4 of the vegetable/apple mixture on each tortilla and wrap.

Enjoy! Next up - Spa Day at your local spa......
